This is a unique weeklong jazz intensive designed for advanced high school students in grades 9th-12th. Daily sessions will run from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM, featuring a 45-minute break for lunch. Evening attendance at professional music performances will be scheduled as part of this enriching PNW Jazz Education experience. Enrollment will be limited to ensure a focused, personalized, and rewarding experience for each student. All accepted students will be part of the PNW Advanced Summer Intensive Chamber Jazz Orchestra. Students may audition on various instruments including clarinet, bass clarinet, flute, oboe, bassoon, saxophone, trumpet, French horn, trombone, violin, viola, cello, piano, vibraphone, guitar, upright bass, and drum set. The repertoire we will be studying and rehearsing daily will include the music of contemporary jazz legends such as Miles Davis, Herbie Hancock, Wayne Shorter, Joe Henderson, Slide Hampton, Charles Mingus, Mary Lou Williams, John Coltrane, Ornette Coleman, and Don Ellis.
