This is a unique weeklong jazz intensive designed for advanced high school students in grades 9th-12th. Daily sessions will run from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM, featuring a 45-minute break for lunch. Evening attendance at professional music performances will be scheduled as part of the summer intensive. All accepted students will be part of the PNW Advanced Summer Intensive Symphonic Jazz Orchestra.
We currently have remaining spaces open for viola (1), and cello (1). Full Scholarships to participate in the intensive for these instruments are still available.
The repertoire we will be rehearsing and performing daily will include orchestral arrangements of contemporary jazz standards by Miles Davis, Herbie Hancock, Wayne Shorter, Charles Mingus, Mary Lou Williams, John Coltrane and Don Ellis in addition to music by Astor Piazzolla.
